Discover One of Madeira’s Most Beautiful Levada Walks
Rabaçal is considered one of the most astonishing places to hike on Madeira Island. The walk between Rabaçal and the 25 Fountains allows you to immerse yourself in the island’s mysterious beauty. The trail operates within the Laurissilva Forest, a World Heritage site, and offers views of the stunning Rabaçal Valley and the Forest House of Rabaçal. The Levada Rabaçal begins in Paul da Serra, specifically in Calheta.
Shortly into the hike, you will visit the magnificent Risco waterfall. After a break at the Risco balcony, the path continues through the lush green forest, filled with the sounds of nature and the running water of the levada.
At the end of the Rabaçal Levada walk, you reach the 25 Fountains. Despite some initial challenging stairs, the trail is pleasant and rewards hikers with views of a beautiful green lagoon surrounded by giant ferns. After appreciating the breathtaking scenery, the route returns along the same path. This hike offers a captivating blend of natural beauty, historic significance, and serene landscapes.
