Explore the Natural Beauty and Cultural Richness of Madeira’s Mountains and North Coast
The tour begins with an ascent to Pico do Areeiro, the third highest mountain in Madeira, where you’ll be treated to stunning panoramic views at an altitude of 1818 meters. From this vantage point, the island’s beauty unfolds in all directions.
After experiencing the majestic views from Pico do Areeiro, we journey to the north of the island, passing through Ribeiro Frio. This area is famous for its trout hatchery and the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Descending from the mountains, we reach Santana, home to the traditional triangular, straw-roofed houses known as “Casas de Santana.”
Continuing along the north coast, we visit the charming village of Porto da Cruz, where you can explore a local rum factory. Our next stop is Machico, the historic landing site of Portuguese navigators in 1419.
On our return to Funchal, we pass through Camacha, renowned for its wickerwork and as the location of Madeira’s first football game. The tour concludes with a journey to the harbor, where you can set sail to explore Madeira’s stunning coastline and have the opportunity to see whales and dolphins.
