Most of the walks on the Madeira Island are accompanied by a vital element that is water, and a ancient Forest survivor from the tertiary era, which is our Laurissilva Forest (World Heritage by UNESCO). Ponta de São Lourenço Walk The Ponta de São Lourenço is the most eastern peninsula of our island. It is formed by beautiful promontories of Roca, where you can observe the landscape and understand the volcanic origin through landscape. This area is regarded as nature reserve since 1982 and it is a totally different route than normal, due to which the vegetation is sparse and bait, which does not happen in the rest of the island. From the top of Ponta de São Lourenço we can observe on the North, the Porto Santo, on the South, the Ilhas Desertas and on the West, Machico City, where the discoverers landed in 1418. Difficulty: Moderate Minimum: 3 people Areeiro/ Pico Ruivo Walk “reaching the top” Has its own name shows, the ultimate goal of this route is to reach the highest peak of the island which is the Pico Ruivo peak, with approximately 1861 meters of altitude. We start this walk in the Pico do Arreiro peak, which is the third highest of the island with 1,818 meters. This walk offers fantastic views and the fantastic opportunities to appreciate and understand the massive central mountains of Madeira. Difficulty: Difficult Minimum: 3 people Lamaceiros Levada: This is a fantastic route in the North side of Madeira Island, in Porto Moniz. The route is along the Ribeira da Janela valley, and extends it to the Lamaceiros site, in this journey we pass through nine tunnels of basaltic stone to get to the point of the Levada matrix.
